Governance
Formed in 2020 in response to the lack of long-time renters on appointed and elected bodies, Palo Alto Renters' Association is governed by a Steering Committee comprised of renters and community members impacted by the housing crisis (ie. unhoused and adults living at home). In 2021, we were thrilled to receive a generous philanthropic grant to hire team members who can help us make Palo Alto a better home for renters!
We believe that policy solutions must come from those most impacted by systemic problems. In order to protect the anonymity of our leaders, we do not publish the names of all Steering Committee members.
We follow a decentralized communications philosophy. You can reach our team at info@paloaltorenters.org.
Team
Lauren Bigelow
Lauren Bigelow (she/her) is the Board President for the Palo Alto Renter’s Association. She spent the past 12 years working in and around the Peninsula and the last 7 specifically working in Palo Alto on affordable housing issues. Her last position was helping create the list of renter protections in Palo Alto that City Council voted to pursue last November. This was the result of a year’s worth of research and meetings specifically dedicated to figuring out who Palo Alto renters were, what protections were already out there and what we needed to do to further help Palo Alto renters.
